​Hair Guidelines

Main Characters
  • Maria – Two braids parted in the middle of the head starting at the crown of the head into a half up half down. 
  • Captain von Trapp – Neatly combed and styled, parted to the side for a polished, military-inspired look.
  • Baroness Elsa Schraeder – Elegant updo with styled waves, sophisticated and refined. Side part sweeping across the face.
  • Maxine Detweiler – Styled waves half up half down under her hat. side part.
The von Trapp Children
  • Liesl – Soft curls or waves in a half-up style with a white bow 
  • Friedrich – Neatly combed with a side part.
  • Louisa – half-up style with a bun. (can have braids into the bun)
  • Kurt – Similar to Friedrich, neatly combed with a side part.
  • Brigitta – Two french braided pigtails or regular braided pigtails.
  • Marta – Two french braids into a low bun
  • Gretl – Two braided pigtail buns or rings with two white bows
Nuns (Abbey)
  • Mother Abbess - Low bun so hair is hidden under the veil
  • Nuns and Postulants – Half up Half down, pull up into bun for party guest scene
Party Guests (Ballroom Scene)
  • Women – Elegant updos or buns with matching hair clip
  • Men – Neatly combed, parted, or slicked-back styles.
Nazis & Soldiers
  • Military-style, slicked-back
Austrian Locals (Concert Scene)
  • Dance Group 1 (Austrian Polka)
    • ​Girls - Two Pigtail braided buns with two white bows
    • Boys – Natural and neatly combed
  • Dance Group 2 (Austrian Partner Dance)​
    • ​Girls - Two french braids with flower crown
    • Boys – Natural and neatly combed
  • Dance Group 3 (Vienna Ballet)
    • Ballet bun​
  • Goatherd Singers and Dancers
    • ​Singers - Two low pigtail buns with red ribbon
    • Dancers - ballet bun with goat headband
